DR FRED FREEMAN

Burns and Hamish

I have been lucky enough to work with the amazing Dr Fred Freeman on two major projects featuring the work of two incomparable talents, Robert Burns and Hamish Henderson. I appear on 4 volumes of the monumental Complete Songs of Robert Burns series as instrumentalist and singer, and have taken part in a number of the live concert performances of the series.

More recently, I have worked with Dr Fred alongside John Morran, Marc Duff and Wendy Weatherby in concerts celebrating the songs of Hamish Henderson, more or less a live version of the "A’ the Bairns o’ Adam" CD that was released on Greentrax in 2003. This included having to learn some fantastic songs including the amazing Rivonia, a powerful tribute to the anti-apartheid campaigners in 1960s South Africa.

Fred's asked me to record this and the splendid John McCreadie song "Doomsday in the Afternoon" about the plight of the Scottish Travellers, as part of a new multi-cultural project for the National Library of Scotland.
