NEW MAKARS TRUSTFor a couple of years I was a trustee of the fabulous New Makars Trust, which exists to support the development and performance of songs about life in Scottish communities. Starting off in Fife in 1997, the Trust has since worked in South Lanarkshire and other parts of Scotland including Arran. Over 50 schools, and 30 day centres and old people's homes have taken part in Trust projects, and over 50 Scottish songwriters have shared their skills. The Trust has several splendid CDs of the projects available. Unfortunately I became too busy to attend the Trust's meetings regularly, but I'm still a massive fan and supporter of the Trust's great and unique work. Present trustees are Robin Laing, Gifford Lind, Ewan McVicar, Billy Stewart, Ian Davison and Scott Murray. Previous trustees along with myself included Carol Laula, Elspeth Cowie, Karine Polwart and Nancy Nicolson. New Makars Trust website |
